Frequently Asked Questions
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by the square of height in meters (kg/m²).
How accurate is BMI?
BMI is a useful screening tool but does not directly measure body fat. It may overestimate body fat in athletes and muscular individuals, and underestimate it in older adults or people with low muscle mass.
What is a healthy BMI range?
A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered a healthy weight. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is classified as obese.
How do I calculate BMI?
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For example, a person weighing 70 kg and 1.75 m tall has a BMI of 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.9.
